Mother put bleach in her baby's eyes.

In this article, they say that a woman had turned herself in to the police on Friday. She is being held for investigation of first-degree assault. A fourteen month year old baby girl was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center on May 12th, for a head injury. The doctors also found some bruising and eye infection, according to the statement of probable cause following police's year-long investigation. While the baby was being airlifter the mother had said that she had no idea what had caused the head injury. She said that a friend was caring for her just before it had happened. The documents did not give any other details about this head injury. They had asked about the eye infection and the mother had said that her daughter's eyes had been swollen shut for about four weeks. They issue began two months' prior when her daughter got a scratch on her eye while playing in a barn. She also said that her daughter was given antibiotics and eye drops for this infection. She was the primary person to put them in her daughter's eyes as her husband has just recently filed for a divorce. The court documents have said that she wanted the father's visits severely limited because of the baby's fragile eye condition and she was the main caregiver. The mother said she needed to go get the eye drops from the hospital room when the daughter was placed into a protective custody at the hospital for the head injury. The detectives have said that they would make sure the baby girl gets her proper medication. When the hospital staff later opened the container to give her the eye drops, they had noticed a strong fume smell that cause their eyes to burn. A detective also had investigated the bottle and noted the strong smell. They sent the bottle to get a test and it was later determined to contain bleach.  One of the doctors at the Children's hospital later told detectives that the infant's eye infections were consistent with injuries cause by bleach. Whoever gave the initial diagnosis of a scratched eye was incorrect. This baby girl's condition had improved once removed from her mother's care. The doctors say that her vision may never be normal, and that some blindness in her right eye was permanent. The mother is being held on a $150,000 bail. The infant is now two years old and has been staying with her biological father since the original incident. The mother has another child that is being taken care of her other family members.

Connection between brain freezes and migranes

child ice cream.jpg

In this article, they say that most people have likely experienced a brain freeze. Researchers did not really understand what causes it, until now. The previous studies found that migraine sufferers are actually a lot more likely to get a brain freeze. People without migraines do not get it as often. The researchers thought that they might share some kind of common cause. They have decided to
use a brain freeze to study up on migraines. Headaches that are like migraines are difficult to study because they are unpredictable. They are not able to research a whole migraine from start to finish in the lab. They can medication to induce the migraines, but those can also have side effects that interfere with the results. Brain freezes make this lab easy because it is easy to get a migraine and it is quick to end. They brought on brain freezes in the lab by having about thirteen healthy volunteers sip ice water through a straw, to hit right again the top of their mouth. They would raise their hands when they felt a familiar brain freeze come on, and then raised them again once it disappeared. The researchers monitored the blood flow through their brains using an ultrasound like process to the skull. The increased blood flow to the brain through a blood vessel, called an anterior cerebral artery, which is located in the middle of the brain behind the eyes. The pain disappears when the artery constricts reining in response to the increased flow. This blood vessel is a type of self-defense for the brain. The blood cannot be cleared as quickly as it is coming in during the brain freeze. It can raise the pressure inside the skull and induce the pain that way. The blood vessel constricts as the pressure and the temperature in the brain rise.
